SPIRITUAL
FOOD
Laboro—the Latin word for “I
work.” Our Latin discipuli haven’t
found this a hard vocabulary word to remember because it resembles our English
word for labor, as in Labor Day.
During
our devotional time, Mrs. Steinmeyer, Mrs. St. Peters and I pondered, “Is work
part of God’s Law or is it a Gospel thing?” We searched Genesis 2-3 for the origin of work and
came across this passage: Therefore the
Lord God sent [Adam] out from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which
he was taken (3:23). As a consequence of Adam and Eve sin, they had to work.
Sounds like a law thing to me. Then we found this passage: God
blessed the seventh day and made it holy because on it God rested from all his
work that he had done in creation (2:3). Hmmm. Reason might say that if God
blesses the day he didn’t have to work, maybe work is still something we want to
escape—perhaps, another law thing. Finally, Mrs. St. Peters discovered this: The
Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and keep
it” (2:15). Aha! Work was
God’s plan for man before sin
entered the world. Therefore, reason would say that work is a Gospel thing.
I suppose work is both law and gospel; that is,
sometimes we find fulfillment and joy in our work and sometimes we just don’t
want to do it. Yet, God intended that our work be a blessing to us. He blesses
us through our work and He blesses us through our rest from work. God also
accomplishes His own purposes by beginning and completing His work through us.
In heaven, God’s purposes will be complete in Jesus and we will rest from our
labors eternally. But for now, we
labor. May we rejoice in the work God gives us here at TSP and find renewed
energy and accomplishment as we share the Gospel and prepare God’s children
for their work in God’s kingdom. –Pax

NEWS
We enjoyed walking to the deli for the Madison County
Walk Day. The afternoon was beautiful and the ice cream was delicious.
Look for our picture in the Chronicle. Everyone checked out a book Wednesday from the library.
Your child may return the book anytime if they would like to share it with the
class during story time. ALL books need to be back the following Wednesday. We have been talking about strangers and what we should
and shouldn’t do when we see a stranger.
Please discuss strangers with your child. They all know what to do if a
stranger approaches, but extra talking won’t hurt. The boys and girls are doing a great job at
handwriting. There is a handwriting
paper in the folder. We have
learned Ll’s and Tt’s. Please
pay close attention to how each letter and number is made and the red and blue
lines on the paper. Make sure that
each letter is the correct way and that your child holds his/her pencil
correctly. Handwriting homework will come home on Friday, but that
doesn’t mean you can’t practice every night at home.
It would be a great advantage to your child if they practiced their name,
numbers, and the letters that we have learned to date every night. Don’t forget our first PTL meeting on Monday,
September 8 at St. Paul. Thanks for returning all the book orders. Our memory verse for Friday is: Know the love of Christ
and you will be filled with all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:19. Chapel will be at St. Paul until further notice.
Have a great weekend! God’s
Blessings – Mrs. Steinmeyer 1st

to your child to study a little bit throughout the week. We review these words
daily, also. On Wednesday we went to the library. Please make sure your child brings their book-bag to school
by Wednesday so they can check out another book. Monday night is our first PTL meeting of this school
year at St. Paul at 7:15. Please
make every effort to attend. The
class with the highest attendance wins a cash prize!
